Shannon
March 22nd 2000 – March 28th 2010
Shannon was the breed I had always dreamed of owning one day since I was a teenager. One day my dream came true when I was 38 years old when we had just had our mutt put to sleep after 15 years, in the June of 2000 and my husband suggested we go and see a litter of wolfhounds that we had seen in the local paper. When we arrived there were puppies everywhere, they were all beautiful, but one stood out more than the others, Shannon! She was the one. Due to work commitments at that time we had to wait until August before we could take Shannon home, the wait was long and painful, but well worth it! From that day she filled our lives with all she could give us, she gave us more than I would of imagine possible. She was more than a dog; a friend, companion and we even called her our third daughter, because that’s what she was to us. Everywhere we would go with Shannon, everyone loved her, even when we made one of the biggest decisions of our lives, to move from England across to the USA, here in Colorado, where she continued to win peoples hearts everywhere she went. Shannon was 6 years old when we came to America and she coped extremely well with the transition, I was very proud of her. The climate is very different here to the UK, but she took it in her stride and in fact the dry climate suited her much better and I think we were given a little extra time with her because of this. With the move from the UK Shannon has experienced a lot more than most humans have and I am confident that she enjoyed her life with us, I was often teased that I thought more of my dog than I did my children, sometimes this might have been the case, but I think true dog lovers out there know exactly what I mean! She relied on me for everything, which was fine by me, I took care of her needs and she gave back. She has come face to face with many species of wildlife since we have been in America, Rattle Snakes, raccoons, squirrels deer and many creepy crawlies to name but a few and she gave them the respect they deserved, she left them alone and they her. She has left a great big hole in our lives, but her time with us is over for now and I know I will meet up with her again one day, until then her memories and spirit live on around me.
Shannon, so very sadly missed, but never forgotten!
